Pollinator Pockets

The Village of Western Spring and the Green Team of the First Congregational Church of Western Springs are partnering to promote a new program, "Pollinator Pockets" - a simple yet impactful way to support local wildlife. These small, carefully cultivated easy-to-care-for spaces help attract pollinators like butterflies, bees, moths, and birds, providing essential food and shelter for both native and migratory species.

You can help by adopting a right-of-way corner! Simply complete the Village permit application online. Once a location site has been established and approved, the creativity can begin by planting, designing and maintaining the right-of-way corner from early spring through late fall. A list of approved plants is available here (PDF).

There are specific planting and maintenance guidelines on the village website but it seems fitting that the Garden Club also be available to answer specific plant questions. Email your plant queries to: wspringsgardenclub@gmail.com and an plant expert will get back to you as soon as possible.
